James A. Pilling

PITTSTON-- James "Jim" Arthur Pilling, 61, formerly of Whitefield, passed away peacefully at his sister and brother-in-law's house in Pittston on January 7th after a long battle with cancer. He was born on September 27th, 1963, in Augusta, Maine to Robert E. Pilling and Rebecca Betty (MacKenzie) Pilling.
Jim grew up in the Gardiner-Hallowell area and attended local schools. His first job was at Health-Tex in Farmingdale, Maine spreading cloth for children's clothing. He later went to work for NRF Distributors in Augusta. Jim's employment ended when a back injury forced his retirement at an early age.
Jim spent the next several years building a farm at the top of a hill in Whitefield which he named "Pilling Hill Farm." Jim raised white-faced Hereford cattle and took great pride in expanding his herd through his breeding program.
Jim was predeceased by his mother and father, paternal and maternal grandparents, many special cousins, and aunts and uncles.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Katie Lynn Dow and her husband, Mike, and their two daughters, Taylor and Reese of China, Maine. He is also survived by his stepmother, Ellie Pilling of Johnsonville, New York; his sister, Janice (Pilling) LaChance and her husband, Joe of Pittston, and brother, Jeffrey Pilling of Whitefield. Jim leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved very much.
The family would like to thank MaineGeneral Medical Center's Home Care and Hospice for their support during the last several months, especially Dr. Robert Dohner, Nurse Ashley, Donna (his singing buddy), Marcy, and the entire team.
A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18th from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St. Augusta, ME 04330 where a service will begin at 12 noon. Burial will take place in the spring. A gathering to celebrate Jim's life will follow at Life Community Church, 46 Church Street in Gardiner, Maine.
