James R. Plassard, 77, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born November 26, 1947, in Harrisburg, PA, to the late James and Arlene (McCormick) Plassard.
Jim grew up in Indiana, PA and graduated from Indiana High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. On July 18, 1969, he married Vivian Barras, from Manor, PA, and she survives.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee, greeter and was active with AROMA and the Edgelea School backpack program.
Jim was a dedicated volunteer with WALLA (Wabash Area Lifetime Learning Association) serving as past president and board member and had taught multiple classes. Jim enjoyed baseball, fishing, logic puzzles and researching history for the classes he taught.
Surviving along with his wife are his sons James W. (Gretchen Guard) Plassard of Indianapolis, Jason A. (Joy) Plassard of West Lafayette, grandchildren Libby (Ethan) Miller of Plainfield, Hope Plassard and Andrew Plassard both of West Lafayette. Also surviving is his sister Peggy (Lou) Loutzenhiser of Pittsburgh, PA. Jim was preceded in death by his sister Suzanne Jamison.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Christ United Methodist Church, 3610 South 18th Street, Lafayette, Pastor Kurt Freeman officiating. Inurnment will be at Meadow View Cemetery in Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edgelea Backpack Program at Christ United Methodist Church or Arbor Day Foundation in Jim's memory.
