Charles M. Horner, 97, of Battle Ground passed away Friday, October 3, 2025, at Creasy Springs Health Campus with his loved ones near.
He was born April 28, 1928, in Lafayette to the late Herbert and Frances (Hall) Horner. Chuck graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1946 and Purdue University in 1951. He served in the US Army 25th infantry division in the Korean War. On June 18, 1955, he married Meredith "Bee" Hunt and she preceded him in death on July 4, 2025. They had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 18th.
Chuck began his career at Horner Motor Company and then operated a Hertz Rental Car Franchise in West Lafayette. He owned and operated Horner Fuels Inc. in Lafayette until retirement.
He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Rotary International, John Purdue Club, United Way, YMCA, Tippecanoe County Historical Association and a long time member of Central Presbyterian Church. Chuck was on the boards of Salvation Army and Friendship House.
He enjoyed Purdue sports, golf and tennis. Chuck and Bee loved spending time vacationing with family and friends at Walloon Lake, MI and Palm Island, FL.
Chuck was blessed to live long enough to know his 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Surviving are his children Carl C. (Trudi) Horner of West Lafayette, Karen H. Wadsworth of Lanesville, Douglas H. Horner of Brookston, grandchildren Lauren Koleff, Robert Horner, Katherine Voyles, Henry Wadsworth; great grandchildren Elloise Koleff, Emery Koleff, Tessa Horner, Micah Horner, Mia Voyles, Knox Voyles, Abigail Wadsworth and Avery Wadsworth. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by siblings John "Jack" C. Horner and Julia H. Mulligan.
Private graveside service will be held at Grand View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Salvation Army in Chuck's memory.
