James "Jimmy" Everett Porter, Jr., aged 85, passed away peacefully in his home on August 1, 2025, in Stockton, MD, filled with years of fond memories and the love of his family. Born and raised in Greenbackville, VA, on March 30, 1940, to parents James, Sr. and Dorothy (née Plant), Jimmy would grow to be a man whose character was as rich and vast as the waters he cherished.

In true patriarchal spirit, Jimmy's legacy lives on through his devoted family. Although he was predeceased by his first wife, Betty (née Brown), and his parents, his loving spirit is carried forward by his wife Jennifer (née Clarke), his daughters Jeanien Marshall (Troy) and Susan Colgate (Curtis), as well as his step-son Eddie Chandler, Jr. (Billie Jo). Jimmy was a treasured grandfather to Jocelyne Hurley, Bridgette and Lennon Marshall, Sydney Chandler (Lauren), and Eddie Chandler, III (Laura), and a doting great-grandfather to five beautiful great-grandchildren, whom he adored.

Jimmy honorably served in the United States Coast Guard, where he learned discipline and service, traits he carried through into civilian life. After his service, he continued to enrich his hometown through his dedication to the Greenbackville Volunteer Fire Department. As both a volunteer and past president, he exemplified community spirit and involvement.

Yet, it was the call of the water that truly defined Jimmy's career. Working the water of the Chincoteague Bay was more than a job-it was his life's passion. The Bay's sunrise would often catch the glint in Jimmy's eye, echoing the twinkle of a man in his natural element, seamlessly blending work with pleasure.

A dedicated Christian, Jimmy found strength and solace in his faith. He was active in his church, enjoying the fellowship and community he found within the congregation at Remson Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his commitment to helping others.

Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman and a steward of nature. Raising quail and chukar, hunting deer and duck, he instilled in others a respect for the great outdoors. His hobbies not only highlighted his understanding of balance with nature but also his ability to nourish life in various forms.

As a young man, Jimmy demonstrated a talent on the baseball field, playing second base with agility and spirit for both Walter's and the Sea Side Stars teams. His skills were sharp enough to earn him a coveted position on the New York Mets Minor League team for a brief period, an accomplishment he always recalled with pride.

His was a life lived with laughter and love. To say Jimmy was funny would be an understatement; his humor was as integral a part of him as his generosity and faith. He wielded wit as an instrument of joy, never missing an opportunity to evoke laughter and brighten a room. Jimmy's heart, always filled with love, reflected his understanding that it was the simplest acts of kindness that contribute to a life well-lived.

James "Jimmy" Everett Porter, Jr., leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, service, and an enduring faith that touched many. Through his actions and the memories he created, he will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he brightened and will continue to inspire love and joy in others as his story is retold by family and friends. Jimmy was not just a man but a beacon of light in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His departure from this world leaves an indelible mark, and he will be profoundly missed.
