James Kehoe Price, aged 76, passed away in Kyiv, Ukraine, on August 30, 2024. Born on March 13, 1948, in Springfield, PA, and later relocating to
Charleston, SC, Jamie lived a life marked by joy, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his beliefs and loved ones. His quick wit and exceptional sense of humor testify to his strong character, as does his dedication to his principles.
Jamie's life was deeply intertwined with his family. He experienced a significant loss early in life: the passing of his father, Maxwell William Price, in 1969, and later his mother, Catherine Diane McNiff (Horley), in 2015, and his stepfather, Alexander J. "Bud" McNiff, in 2011. Despite these heartaches, Jamie's indomitable spirit saw him through, shaping a fulfilling and impactful life. His love of life was only surpassed by his love for his children and grandchildren: his sons, Mickey and Kyle; daughters, Hillary, Chelsey, and Corinne; and grandchildren, Finn, Ella, and Cheyenne. His adoring siblings, Lisa, Gregory, Kevin, and Edward, also survive him.
He proudly joined the U.S. Army in 1968, where his dedication to duty was evident. Jamie's career was as diverse and dynamic as his personality. Jamie's proudest entrepreneurial endeavor was becoming the founder and managing partner of Monarch Development Company in Charleston; his extraordinary vision and creativity helped shape residential, shopping stores, and restaurants on upper King Street and surrounding areas. His persistence always paid off in one way or another as Jamie started Second Sunday when beautiful King Street became a pedestrian-only walkway for a festive afternoon.
Jamie's life was a beautiful tapestry of passion, values, commitments, relationships, and hobbies. Jamie was a man who loved to travel, meet new people, and continuously learn and grow as a person. He took the time to understand and honor his ancestry and where he came from. He is known for his beautiful gardens – vegetables and flowers, because of his exceptional green thumb. Jamie loved taking pictures and capturing beauty wherever he went, and his photographs have been admired by many. From his colorful garden to his powerful advocacy and dedication as a coach, Jamie touched the lives of many. He instilled in his children the teachings of courage and determination, seizing new opportunities whenever possible, facing adversity head-on, standing up for oneself and others, and always fighting for what is right.
Jamie spent the last years of his life assisting in the war in Ukraine. His unwavering support for democracy and his efforts in Ukraine have left an indelible mark on all who knew him there.
A heartfelt thanks to Jamie's caregivers, friends, family, and Kyiv Hospital ICU staff for providing him with the best care. All who knew him will remember him as a beacon of light and strength. His legacy is vivid in every life he touched, teaching us to nurture, challenge, and advocate for better worlds in our backyards and beyond.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 26, 2025, in
Charleston, SC, at Halls Signature Events, 5 Faber Street 3-6 PM.
