James Earl Profitt, age 77, of South Silvara, PA in the Profitt Holler went to be with the lord on May 3, 2025. Born on May 5, 1947, in Whitesburg KY, and was the son of the late Lawrence and Melvena Hampton Profitt.
James grew up in the hollers of Whitesburg KY, and after high school James would courageously serve in the United States Army in Korea as a Wireman and a Driver. After his service in the Army, he would come back to the hollers of Kentucky and become a coal miner. On February 8, 1969, he married his wife the late Darlene (Nesslein) Profitt. James and Darlene would move up to Pennsylvania and make South Silvara their home. When James first moved up to Silvara he would take up working at Jaynes Orchard, then he moved on to Par Gas. Then finally James would finish out at the Cargill Beef Plant retiring as Refrigeration Maintenance Technician in 2008.
During his life James would pick up many hobbies including talking to his dad and brothers all the way from Pennsylvania to Kentucky via his Ham radio. James also loved to tend to his gardens, and woodworking. James being a very simple man loved to play his guitar and would play for hours telling stories through his lyrics. James was also a member of Rought Hall American Legion Post 510.
James is survived and will be greatly missed by Alan (Bobbi) Profitt of Aiken, SC, Julie Carter of

Laceyville, PA, Amber (Jim) Elchak of
Laceyville, PA, Dustin Moore of Stevensville, PA; along with 17 Grandkids and 18 Great-Grandchildren; brothers, David (Sandy) Profitt of Republic, OH, Darrell Profitt of Whitesburg, KY, Roger (Helen) Profitt of Jenkins, KY; sisters Armenda (Willard) Ashworth of Happy, KY, Aretta Stallard of Henryville, IN, and Patty (Steve) Higginbotham of Georgetown, IN; brother-in-law, Jamie Maggard of Whitesburg, KY; sister-in-law, Kathy Nesslein of
Laceyville, PA, and close family friend, Ruth Heft; along with the numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless others that he loved as his own.
Besides his parents and his wife, James is preceded in death by his brother, Dan (Pat) Profitt of Paintsville, KY; sister, Mary Maggard of Whitesburg, KY; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Stallard of Henryville, IN, Michael Nesslein of
Laceyville, PA, David Nesslein of
Laceyville, PA; sister-in-law, Alynne Nesslein of
Laceyville, PA; father/mother-in-law, Kermit and Eloise Nesslein of Laceyville PA; and close friend Julie Heft.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors for James will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11:00 am from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St.,
Laceyville, PA with Charles Bishop of the Transue and Elk Lake Community Church officiating and the members of the Rought Hall American Legion Post 510, and the Dennis Strong American Legion Post 457. Calling hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 PM and on May 9, 2025 from 10:00 AM to the time of the service.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Quimby Cemetery in Silvara PA.
