James W. "Jim" Ranes Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Warren Ranes (Jim), 81, who passed away peacefully in his home in Easton, Massachusetts on June 22, 2025.
Jim, born in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 15, 1944, was the son of Helen Iwashita and James Addison Ranes. His grandparents, George Hayashi Iwashita and Chie Matsumoto Iwashita, played an influential role in his early life.
As a teen, Jim played high school basketball and football, leading to a lifelong interest in sports. After high school, he enrolled in Arizona State University and earned an undergraduate degree.
A chance meeting with Karen Fitch in the Honolulu airport led to their wedding a few months later in Japan, and a lifelong partnership of nearly 58 years. Jim was Karen's beloved husband and a devoted father to his children James Stuart, Megan, and Michaela.
Jim served with honor as a Captain in the United States Air Force, specializing in signals intelligence. Subsequently, Jim earned a Master of Business Administration and had an illustrious career as an international trader, visiting over 80 countries for business or holiday in his lifetime.
A passionate family man, Jim worked tirelessly to provide for his wife and children, capturing their joys and successes through his photography.
Jim was always the first to embrace new technology and gadgets. A stranger to no one and a huge sports fan, Jim was fast friends with anyone he met, always eager to share about his love for family, his favorite sports teams or his latest toys.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, sons-in-law Roger and David, and grandchildren
Connor, Robert, Hannah, Mackenzie, Ben, and Finn, as well as his beloved cockapoo, Emma.
A memorial service was held by his immediate family in Wellfleet, Cape Cod.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to share any memories or photos via the Tribute Book linked on this page.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sunset Hospice (check payable to: Sunset Hospice, memo: In memory of James Ranes; 25 Wareham St. Suite 2-26, Middleborough, MA 02346).

Jim was a friend and compatriot of mine in the specialty not mentioned in the obituary. He was very good at what we did.
Those of us left will miss him.
