Reverend James E. Reed
Johnston, SC: Reverend James E. Reed, Sr. 63, of 500 Rocky Creek Road, the husband of Kershell Mason Reed, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in Augusta University Medical Center, Augusta, GA.
He was born in Quincy, FL, April 5, 1959, son of the late Horace William and Hattie Beatrice Hover Reed. He was educated in the public schools of Florida and he graduated from James A. Shanks High School in Quincy, FL. He was a veteran of US Marines. He was an ordained Minister and he pastored Unity Baptist Church in Augusta, GA and Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Saluda, SC.
After moving from Augusta, GA to Saluda, SC, he joined Mine Creek Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend George Key. After his pastorship at Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church he became a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of present pastor, Reverend Herbert Martin.
Reverend Reed loved the Lord and he loved to share God's word by Teaching and Preaching the Word of God. He also loved doing a Servant work. Reverend Reed also loved football and his favorite NFL team was the Patriots and college team the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Precious memories of Reverend James Earl Reed, Sr. will linger on in hearts and minds of his wife, Kershell Mason Reed of the home; He is survived by two children, James E. (Charly) Reed and April Reed both of Augusta, GA; step-children, Montavius (Marquita) Butler of Summerville, SC and Chanta Butler of Greenville, SC; eleven grandchildren; Preceded him in death brother, Stanley L. Reed. He is also survived by brothers, Reverend Clifford Brinson of Johnston, SC, Ricky (Deborah) Reed of Tallahassee, FL, Larry (Rosa) Reed, Jacksonville, FL, Elder Marvin (Michelle) Reed of Deltona, FL and Minister Robert (Angela) Footman, Tallahassee, FL; god-daughters, Mariah Evans and Ryleigh, Raegan and Rhea Cothran; father-in-law, George K. Mason of Saluda, SC; two aunts, Lillian Hover of Quincy, FL and Ella Hover of Cordell, GA; seven brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of His Life will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2023 at Rock Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Family viewing will be Thursday 1-2 p.m and public viewing will be 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
When visiting please wear a mask or face covering due to the Pandemic is still around.
Please pray for this family as they go through this difficult time in their lives.
