James "Jim" Lee Reeves died on February 6th, 2025 at the age of 79. Jim was born in 1946 to Elizabeth and Veeh "Pete" Reeves in Oberlin, Kansas. Jim grew up on their family farm just outside of Oberlin. After attending Vallonia District rural school, he graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1964, where he was a member of the band and the wrestling team. After high school, Jim studied at Kansas State University, where he earned a Bachelor's of Science in Geology.
After graduation, Jim worked for Petroleum, Inc. in Oklahoma City and met Joanne Riedl. They were married in 1971, spending the next few years in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Oklahoma City. In 1975, Jim and Joanne moved to Oberlin. Jim founded Reeves Geological Services, offering his services as a consulting geologist for oil and gas exploration across the high plains. They had two children, Wendy and Robert.
Considering his young family, Jim wanted to stay closer to home, so he transitioned away from the oil patch to focus on the operation of the family farm. He also owned and operated Reeves Seedhouse for over 20 years. Jim enjoyed experiencing multiple careers and often wondered what he would do "when he had to grow up." He had a long-lasting love of cars, taking his family on summer vacation road trips through the mountains and jeep trails of Colorado and visiting car shows and museums wherever he went. He also owned several Studebakers that he often brought to car shows.
His wife Joanne passed away in 2001. In 2002 he married Theresea Pfeifer. Jim and Theresea enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, visiting historical landmarks and taking in the scenic landscapes. In more recent years, Jim was a beloved grandfather to Abigail, Ted and Joanna.
Jim is survived by his wife: Theresea; his daughter: Wendy (Michael) and their children Ted and Joanna of Manhattan, KS; his son: Robert of Livermore CA; his stepson: Jay (Julie) Scott of Lenora, KS and their daughter Abigail of Watford, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joanne, and his sister Mary.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 21st at the Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home. A meal will be held at the United Methodist Church immediately after the funeral. Burial will be conducted at a later date at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the KSU Foundation (Arts and Sciences General Scholarship Endowment Q50950) or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Theresea, I was saddened to read just this morning of Jim's passing. He was a special person and friend to me (Helen) all my life. Thank you to both you and Jim for your kindness to the Jones family in our travels to Kansas over the years. We hope to stay in touch with you. And, we wish you the very best going forward.

All our love, Helen and Preston Jones
