It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Walter Rhodes Jr., who went home on March 16, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on November 24, 1951, in DeRidder, LA, James was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend to many. He will always be remembered for his infectious laughter, warm spirit, and genuine love for his family.
James spent his working years as a carpenter, his passion for the craft shone brightly. He made sure to pass this love of carpentry down to his daughter, Morgan, sharing countless moments that she'll carry with her always. When he wasn't working on homes, job sites, and bringing visions to life, you could find him by the water, rod in hand, or listening to his favorite tunes. James may have been a man of few words, but when he spoke, he had a sharp tongue and a no-nonsense attitude. Known for not letting anyone take advantage of him, he stood his ground with fierce loyalty. While he wasn’t one to sugarcoat things, his heart was kind and his intentions true.
James was known to be the life of the party, cracking jokes and filling the room with laughter. His outgoing personality drew people to him like a magnet. He was the best Daddy to Morgan, always reminding her and everyone else, "I Love All Y'all," but he loved his "Baby Girl" more than anything.
Morgan was his whole world, the apple of his eye. His world revolved around her, his “Stone Fox, Rain Baby, Daddy’s Baby.”
For the past fifteen years, James bravely faced the challenges of nine strokes, and throughout that time, his sister Cecilia provided exceptional care, selflessly sacrificing her time and energy for him. The family is incredibly grateful for her unwavering support and love during these difficult years.
James is survived by his cherished daughter, Morgan Senske-Rhodes of Baker, LA, his beloved grandson, Mason Parker; his sisters, Patricia Parker and Wilbert, Sr. of Keithsville, LA, Millie Oliver and David of Leesville, LA, Cecilia Groves and Danny of DeRidder, LA, Shalinda Dunbar of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Sherman Rhodes of Houston, TX, Calvin Rhodes and Robin of Bay St. Louis, MS alongside a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church on Saturday, March 28, 2026. A public viewing will take place at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. His burial will be at Community Cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Reverend Martin Scott will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Wilbert Parker, Jr., Bruce McClintock, Durrell Rhodes, Leo Soniat, Nigel Parker, Andrew Walker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sherman Rhodes, Calvin Rhodes, Wilbert Parker, Sr., David Oliver, Danny Groves, Roosevelt “Bubba” Wood’s, Jr.
James was preceded in death by his father, Reverend James Walter Rhodes, Sr.; mother, Sylvia Rhodes; brothers, Silvin Rhodes, Alvin Rhodes; nephew, Joshua McClintock.
As we bid farewell to James, may we remember the joy he brought into our lives and honor his memory by sharing love and laughter with one another, just as he would have wanted. Rest in peace, dear friend; you will be missed more than words can say.
