James Edward Robinson, 90, of Malta, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, peacefully at home. James was born on January 28, 1935, in Cheyenne, WY to Floyd and Emily (Colgate) Robinson; the youngest of eight children. His family ranched at Wright, Wyoming until James was four years old. Then a ranch was purchased near Miles City, MT. He graduated from Custer County High School in 1953. He then enlisted in the Army and went to Korea. When he returned from Korea he worked on the family ranch, until he married Maralee Paul. James met Maralee when he was working on a dude ranch (Roaring Brook) in Lake George, NY. Maralee is from Hadley, NY and was attending a dance at the dude ranch when they met. They married in Miles City in 1965. After marriage James worked as a brand inspector in Billings. Then they moved to the Lazy JD Ranch at Zortman, MT. In 1993 he and Maralee purchased the Mill Iron Ranch near Malta, MT. His life as a Rancher revolved around cattle, horses, dogs, hard work – and a handshake was a commitment that shouldn't be broken. He enjoyed tie-down roping, rodeos, reading, playing 500, the Cowboy Channel and eating beef, potatoes, gravy, and apple pie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Floyd, John (Olive), Colgate (Irma), Donald (Eva), Jean (Kay), Jess (Nancy), his sister Mary Emily (Leo) Barthelmess.
James is survived by his wife Maralee, his daughter Holly, his son Glen & Jodi, his grandchildren Hannah and Caleb and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at Wilderness Funeral Home in Malta, MT on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11AM. A reception will be held at the Tin Cup following funeral and graveside services.
