James Patrick Rogan (J.R.) of the Bronx, NY passed away unexpectedly on December 6th, 2024 surrounded by the love and unwavering support of his family. J.R. was the beloved husband of 43 years to Patricia Rogan (née Flynn). Devoted father and hero of Jackie (Joe), Jimmy, his wife Stephanie, and Mairead (Oliver). Fun-loving and cherished 'Papa' to Charlotte, James, and Carter Rogan, and Caleb Van Leuvan. Brother and best friend to Michael (Kay) Rogan. Also survived by sister-in-law Marian Flynn, Joni Rath (Billy), Diane McKelvey (Steve), and loving nieces, cousins and dear friends who became family.
Born and raised in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, J.R. embodied what it meant to be a man for others. His honest blue eyes and riotous sense of humor put people at ease, while his generosity and willingness to lend a hand inspired his children daily.
J.R. graduated from Iona College with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Shortly thereafter he met his wife, Patty-Ann, who complemented his quick wit and could deliver a wise crack with the same deft and precision. Together they set out to create their loving family. They were a beautiful pair and of their many achievements remained proudest of their 3 children.
J.R. spent the happiest years of his life raising Jackie, Jimmy, and Mairead in the parish of Saint Barnabas. He dedicated countless hours coaching basketball, fundraising, and organizing tournaments, which also led to an unofficial role as stand-up comic. Sometimes he announced the games–but mostly he heckled the referees, riffed with the audience, and lit up the lives of an entire generation of "Barnabites."
Throughout J.R.'s life his passion and love for the game of golf was palpable. He could be found all throughout courses in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and even a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Ireland. Some of J.R.'s happiest times were out on the course. The game introduced him to many lifelong friends who shared a love of golf but more importantly the time spent together, where laughs were seemingly endless.
After 40 years of work in business development for AT&T, J.R. enjoyed a few well-deserved years of retirement with his wife at their home in Surf City, NJ. He found tremendous joy golfing with his son, his brother and friends, playing with his grandchildren, walking his dog, long phone calls with Mairead, and looking after the beautiful family he dedicated his whole life to.
In heaven he finds reconciliation in the arms of the Father, loved ones gone before and a good dog named Tucker.

I worked for Jim and along side him for 20 of my 33 years at AT&T. He was a trusted colleague, strategic business leader, and a great friend. My heart sank when I read this .... RIP JR...

I had the pleasure of working for JR at AT&T. I'll always remember the many times he invited me to Knollwood for what he called, "Knowledge Transfer Sessions"- meaning 18 holes, lunch & Guinness. First time there he had only been a member for about a week and joined not knowing more than one or two members. That day almost everyone we ran into greeted him with a big, "JR!!" He was always able to become your friend almost instantly no matter who you were or what the circumstances.
