James Mitchell Ryder, 77, of Lubbock, Texas, peacefully passed away in his sleep on Monday, February 3, 2025, entering eternal rest. Born on October 8, 1947, in Daingerfield, Texas, to Cornelius and Rebecca Ryder, James led a life rich in love, adventure, and dedication.
During his youth, James actively participated in various sports, including track, basketball, and football. After graduating from Daingerfield High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country. Upon returning home, James embarked on a career at the Bayer Crop Sites plant, where he eventually retired as the manager of the delinting cotton seed division.
With roots in Cajun heritage, James was a masterful cook, unafraid of spices and bold flavors. He found immense joy in a day filled with chicken wings, fried catfish, cold beers, and a Dallas Cowboys game on TV. His passion for golf and hunting showcased his patience and skill in the great outdoors. James' magnetic personality and treasure trove of stories drew people toward him, creating countless cherished memories. Known for his unwavering support, compassion, and generosity, he touched the lives of many. His heart was as vast as Texas itself.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Rebecca Ryder, and his sister, Connie Sue Ryder.
Left to honor his memory are his beloved son, Tyler Ryder, and his wife, Gwen, of Amarillo, TX.
Services to celebrate James' life are pending at this time. The family has entrusted Winegeart Funeral Home with the cremation care of their loved one. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of James Mitchell Ryder, please visit our Tree Store.
