"I want to leave the world a better place." James P. Sadlon, DDS, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. He started Sadlon Orthodontics in 1965 and provided care to thousands of patients. He also shared his accomplished musical talent his entire life. Countless examples include: accompanying choruses while in middle school, directing two choirs at St. Mark Lutheran Church, recording his own Jazz CD "Jim Sadlon at the piano" and playing keyboards in the locally famous Dixieland Docs jazz ensemble. In retirement, he received a 15-year volunteer pin for playing piano at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, "providing a musical component of healing and well-being."
Born on March 3, 1937, in Racine WI, Jim was the son of Stephen and Mildred Sadlon. He married his high school sweetheart Arline Kimbel on August 15, 1959; they held hands for over 72 years. Jim was an avid tennis player, enjoyed photography, and supported his wife's career as an artist in every way.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force stationed at McGuire AFB (1961-1963), Jim graduated from Marquette University with degrees in Dentistry (1961) and Orthodontics (1965). He also attained an honor of excellence as a Diplomate of American Association of Orthodontics. Jim held many leadership positions including Class President and Student Council President in High School, Director of the Dental School Glee Club, President of the Winnebago County Dental Society and President of the Chicago PRIMUS Orthodontic Association.
Survived by his wife Arline; sons Gregg (Tracy) of Arlington Heights and Ky (Claudia) of Elgin; "Two-da" encouraged and supported his loving grandchildren Evan (Delaney), Tia, Colin (Effi) and Riley; siblings Ralph (Jan) and Nancy (Tom) Henkel.
