Sandra Carlson

Sandra J. "Sandy" Carlson, 85, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025. Born June 19, 1940, in Rockford, the daughter of Edwin and Naomi (Alden) Ackerson. Graduate of East High School, Class of 1958 and DePauw University in 1962. Sandy married Conrad L. "Conny" Carlson on July 23, 1966 at St. Mark Lutheran Church. For several years Sandy taught first grade at AC Thompson. She was active in ParTee Golfers for 45 years, Alpha Gamma Delta Alumnae, Rock Valley Golden Eagles Fitness, Wednesday Bridge Gals, Senior Bridge groups at Keen Age Center and St. Mark Lutheran, and Mah Jong Foursome for 23 years. Sandy got a hole in one in 2004 at Prairie View Golf Course and especially loved Bridge conventions, trips to Orlando, Atlanta, Tampa, Lincolnshire, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Scottsdale. She loved attending all of her grandchildren's sports. Sandy loved her flowers, birds and vegetable garden. She fought multiple Myeloma since July of 2022. Survived by husband, Conny; children, Darren (Shawn) Carlson and Shelly (Ryan) Westerberg; grandchildren, Anna, Aidan, & Mason Westerberg and Gillian Gerard & Lydia Carlson; sister, Carol Malmgren; nieces and nephew, Sue Altschwager, Jody Curtis, Carrie Kruzan and Brad Malmgren. Predeceased by her parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 675 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or consider doing acts of kindness.
