James "Jim" D. Sargent, 79, of Evans, Georgia passed away due to cardiac/respiratory failure on Sunday, October 29, 2023 after a 3-month stay in the hospital. Jim was born in Akron, Ohio on October 4, 1944. Most of his career was spent in maintenance supervision and he retired from Bridgestone/Firestone (Aiken, SC plant.) He was a man of simple pleasures like ice cream, a thermos of coffee, college football, and good food. He enjoyed restoring his Model-A, family gatherings, and loved fishing trips with his sons.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Wilbert and Clara Sargent of Akron, Ohio and a sister, Carol Moyer. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ivy Sargent; 3 children and their spouses, Matt (Deborah) Sargent, Melissa (Buddy) Watson, and Mike (Erin) Sargent; 5 grandchildren, Brian Sargent, Kristen (Drew) Payton, Ben Sargent, Sydney Sargent, and Sarah Watson; one great-granddaughter, Lucy Payton; and one niece, Michelle Gaw.
Jim will be dearly missed and loved always. In his final days he was surrounded by family. He may be gone physically but will forever be in our hearts.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Wesley United Methodist Church,825 North Belair Rd, Evans, GA on Sunday, November 12 at 2:00 PM.Visitation prior to service at the church, anytime from 1:00-1:55 PM In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wesley United Methodist's Men in Mission Group in memory of Jim Sargent.
