James Stuart "Jim" Sathers

James "Jim" Stuart Sathers, 84, of Duluth, MN, passed away on January 4th, 2026 at his residence.

Jim was born in Duluth to Oscar Bjorne Sathers & Edith Irene (Flewell) Sathers on September 15th, 1941. He graduated from Proctor High School in 1959, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Minnesota – Duluth. Starting as a shop teacher in Proctor, his love of hard work and playing in the dirt led him to a multitude of jobs in the construction field until finally starting Jim Sathers Construction where he worked in developing, building homes, and excavating. Eventually, he was presented with the opportunity to purchase a local gravel pit, which will continue his legacy, now operated by his son and grandson. He enjoyed few things more than hauling dirt in his dump truck, and did so until he was 83 yrs old.

Jim was known by many around town as a no-nonsense, old-school kind of guy. Stubborn and hard-headed when it came to his ways, he never hesitated to help anyone who needed it. Through the years, with Jackie always by his side, Jim loved cheering on his grandkids at their sporting events – standing out in the crowd thanks to his signature bright orange coat. He was truly larger than life, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lauren "Butch" and Gary Sathers; and sister-in-law, Chris Sathers.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jaclyn Marie (Hariu) Sathers; daughters, Jamie (Patrick Day) Sathers-Day and Darcy Sathers; son, Bard (Julie) Sathers; grandchildren, Bard Day (Makyia Maloney), Keijo Day (Kayla Tremore), Braxton Sathers (Maura Halverson), and Braelyn Sathers (Keagan O'Connor); brother, Robert Sathers; sister-in-law, Char Sathers; his loyal sidekick, Butch the bulldog; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 21st at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown MN 55811, with Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM.
