James "Jim" Michael Sawyer, 58, of Neenah, passed away unexpectedly at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Born on June 28, 1966, in Neenah, Jim was the beloved son of Robert and Carla (Bart) Sawyer. He grew up surrounded by love and faith, values that guided him throughout his life. Jim attended Xavier High School in Appleton, where he formed lifelong friendships with Brian S., Eric S., Tom, and many others who remained close to him throughout his life.
On April 24, 1993, Jim married the love of his life, Johanna Graupner at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Neenah, beginning a beautiful life together filled with love and devotion. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer. His greatest joy was his family. He was incredibly proud of his daughters and their accomplishments, always making time to support them and share in their lives.
Jim's dedication to his work began with his training at Fox Valley Technical College, where he completed his electrician apprenticeship before joining the military. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy as a PO3 (E-4) Electrician. After his military service, he returned home and built a successful career as an electrician at Neenah Foundry, where he worked for over 30 years.
A man of deep faith, Jim was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Neenah. He loved his church community and served as a trustee and member of the finance committee. His faith and commitment to serving others were constants in his life.
Jim enjoyed life to the fullest, embracing every opportunity to connect with loved ones and pursue his passions. He loved sports and attending Timber Rattler games with his family. He coached Trinity Cross Country and suburban softball during his daughters' grade school years. He played Sunday football with friends in Oshkosh, and participated in numerous community runs with his daughter, Stephanie, including the Turkey Trot, the Packer Run, and the Seroogy's run. He completed a marathon in 2023, a testament to his determination and love for running.
An avid traveler, Jim made it a family goal to visit as many of the 50 states as possible, creating countless memories along the way. He had a knack for solving puzzles and riddles, a sharp wit for dad jokes, and a deep appreciation for unique beers, often sharing new finds with his running partner, Steve V., after their runs.
Jim's warmth extended to his "grand pups," Migo and Diego, and his late "grand pup" Charlie, as well as Jennifer's late cat, Reddi Whip, who found comfort in his lap.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, intelligence, and generosity. To know Jim was to know a man who would give you the shirt off his back. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose love and light touched everyone he met.
The Christian Funeral Service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday December 13, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church 407 Oak St., Neenah with Pastor Tony McKenzie officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Kessler Fahrenkrug Funeral Home 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah. Visitation will also be held on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Military Honors will be conducted by the Neenah-Menasha Funeral Honors Team following services.
