James M. Schwartz, age 82, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, May 9, 2025, in Sarasota. He was born on February 6, 1943, a son of Jesse and Mary (Flynn) Schwartz.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Joliet Catholic High in Joliet, IL. He worked his entire career at United States Steel in Joliet, IL. He also served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war.
He is survived by a son, James M. Schwartz, Jr., of Tulsa, OK, and his half-sister, Jamie Lucas, of Springfield, OR, who he treated as his own daughter. He also has one grandson Matthew Schwartz of Madison, IN and a brother-in-law, Richard Emmett of Sarasota, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John M. Schwartz, a sister, Margaret Christine Schwartz and a sister, Mary Kathleen Emmett.
Jim was a big believer in Bill W. and his Twelve Step Program, and The Serenity Prayer for 50 years.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 25th, at 11:00am at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N Orange Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34236.
