James E. "Jim" "Tootsie" Shatzer, age 82, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the York Hospital. Born in Chambersburg, PA on December 31, 1940, he was the son of the late Clarence and Beatrice F. Baker Shatzer.
Jim was a 1959 graduate of the former St. Thomas High School. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army. Jim was an orchard grower and had worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he retired in 2005 after 20 years of service. An avid outdoorsman and steward of the land, he enjoyed being outside, metal detecting, hunting arrowheads, and hunting. He was also enjoyed family game night and was a natural at croquet.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Diana Koons Shatzer, whom he married May 6, 1966; two daughters, Stephanie Shatzer (husband Kevin Neidig) of Dillsburg, PA and Jamie Fahnestock (husband Richie) of St. Thomas, PA; one grandson, Lloyd James Fahnestock; and a brother, John "Butch" Walter Shatzer (wife Ellen) of St. Thomas, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Crawford.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Roy Fahnestock will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
