James Shirey Obituary

Jim graduated from Pittsford High School in 1957, and he went on to attend Hillsdale College. For 20 years, Jim worked for Foulke Construction where he served as superintendent for many building projects in the Hillsdale Community including, County National Bank, the Hillsdale College Fieldhouse, and Mauck School to name a few. He later retired as a sales manager for Metalloy Corporation in Hudson. Jim was a member of the Pittsford First Congregational Church, Pittsford Lions Club, and formerly the Masonic Lodge. He also was a 54-year member of the Hillsdale Elks Lodge. Jim was a master woodworker, avid golfer, and sports fan, especially at the games of his grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Jamie (Richard) Bauerly and Sherrie (John) Abrams, both of Hillsdale, Mark (Erica) Shirey of Saugatuck, and Matthew (Melinda) Shirey of Hudson; eleven grandchildren, Eric Hepker, Ashley (Keith) Kunkel, Adam (Rebecca) Bauerly, Abbey (Matt) LoPresto, Mya and Emma Shirey, Jessica Haywood, Sophie, Phoebe, Sam, and Danny Maddox; five great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Laurie Hayes Shirey of Naples, Florida.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Kathy Shirey, Jim was preceded in death by his three siblings, Eleanore (Leroy) Meyers, Thomas (Dorothy) Shirey, and Donald Shirey.
Memorial services for James "Jim" Shirey will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at the Pittsford First Congregational Church with Pastor Terry Bobzien officiating. Private family interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Ransom Township. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 PM at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pittsford First Congregational Church or Elara Caring Hospice.
