member of the Marching Tar Heels and the Men's Glee Club. In 1961 Jim and Connie were
married and Jim concluded his education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte
graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966.
Jim worked for Ford Motor Company 30 years receiving numerous awards and recognitions for
his dedicated service. Jim was very outgoing, social and was a friend to all. He enjoyed playing
golf at Cedarwood, where he had 3 holes-in-one! A faithful Christian, he was a longtime
member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, holding nearly every leadership position; and in
recent years St. Francis United Methodist church where he was active in United Methodist Men,
church choir and served as a confirmation mentor. Jim joined his first church choir at the young
age of 14 and "officially" retired from choir in 2023 after 68 years. Jim was an avid Tar Heel fan.
For 26 years he and Connie had football season tickets and enjoyed tailgating with friends. For
over 25 years Jim and Connie enjoyed couples bridge, leading to many life-long friendships.
But above all, Jim loved spending time with his family. He could always be found in the stands
or on the sidelines supporting David and Laura in their sporting activities, church events or
school functions. The same continued with his grandchildren. Known affectionally as Pop, he
loved his grandchildren dearly and attended every activity, graduation or event without fail. The
highlight was their annual family vacation. They would spend a week together on the sands of
the beach, sightseeing at fun locations, enjoying amusement parks, working puzzles, playing
games and eating at many great restaurants.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 15th at 2:00pm at St. Francis
United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the Pavilion immediately following
the service.
