James Harold Silcox, 86, of Fort Oglethorpe passed away at his home Monday, March 9th, 2026, surrounded by family. Harold was born April 23rd, 1939, in Harriman, TN to the late James D. and Lennie Kirkland Silcox. He was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia/ Tennessee area and of the Christian faith. Harold following in his family's tradition, served his country in the United States Marine Corps doing 2 tours of combat of almost 3 years in Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart for Combat Wounds and the Bronze Star with "V" for Valor. He retired after 20 years of service as a Master Sargent. In 2007 Harold was awarded the Catoosa County Veteran of the year. 2017 Veterans Day "Salute 21" in Chattanooga published an article of Harold Silcox and 20 other areas veteran's military careers that were nominated by the Chattanooga area communities. After his service in the military Harold went on to acquire his degree in engineering at Murray State University. He worked building various locations in the Southern States in management: health facilities construction, engineering, project management and safety management. He served as Councilmember/ City Clerk, and Interim City Manager in Fort Oglethorpe for 13 years. Harold officially retired at the age of 72 and enjoyed visiting the lake along with participating in Civil War re-enactments.

Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia Silcox; daughter, Barbara (Neal) Silcox Dekich; granddaughter, Jenna Dekich; brother, Gary Silcox.

Graveside services will be 1:30 PM, Monday with Pastor Steve Brandon officiating at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
