James Alexander Simpson Jr.
"Jim," "Simpy," "Big Jim," "Jimbo" "Jimmy"
April 15, 1958 – June 2, 2025
James Alexander Simpson Jr., affectionately known as Jim, Simpy, Big Jim, or Jimbo, Jimmy passed away peacefully at his home in Huntsville, Texas, on June 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 67 years old.
Born on April 15, 1958, in Blue Island, Illinois, Jim built a life defined by dedication, love, laughter, and hard work. He spent 44 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he earned the respect of many as "Captain Simpson" - a source of knowledge, wisdom, and stories that could fill a room, he was the epitome of a true corrections professional. His leadership left a lasting impression on countless colleagues and friends.
Jim was a loving and caring father and grandfather, and a huge part of his family's lives. His love for his children and grandchildren was unwavering and deeply evident - he was present for everything, from the big milestones to the everyday moments that mattered most. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 44 years, Eileen; his daughters Lori and Lisa, and son-in-law Jacob; and his cherished grandchildren: Kelly, David, Savannah, and Caroline. He is also survived by his sister, Christine Simpson and her two children Justin and Audra.
He also leaves his devoted Springer Spaniel, Curly, who entered his life exactly when he needed him most.
Jim was a beloved brother-in-law to Mary Lou Strassheim (Bud), Beverly Berning (Grant), Franny Shampine (Ward), the late Michael Brush (Patti), Lynne Kwak (Paul), Irene Berner (Phil), and Danny Brush (Lauralee). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who became like family over the years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Simpson Sr. and Gail Simpson, and his sister Pamela Giles.
After retiring, Jim found joy in the simple pleasures of life - working in his yard, riding his mower, and perfecting his water-badminton game in the pool. He loved to golf and was an avid cook, often competing in cook-offs alongside friends and family. He was well known for the lively gatherings at "the pub," where laughter and good times were always in generous supply.
Jim's presence was larger than life - warm, witty, generous, and unforgettable. His stories, his laughter, and his unwavering love for his family and friends will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on June 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Huntsville Church of Christ, 3737 Highway 30 West, Huntsville, Texas 77340. All are welcome to join in honoring Jim's memory.
Jim enjoyed plants around the house and yard. In lieu of sending flowers, if you wish to send plants, they may be sent directly to the church. OK

I had the good fortune of working with Jim for several years at the Wynne Unit. Nobody ever had to worry if someone had your back as long as Simpy was there. He was a good friend away from work and we both competed in BBQ cook offs. He had a good sense of humor and was a true pleasure to be around. My condolences to Eileen and family.

My cousin Jim was a great man and although it has been many years since we have been together he left lasting great memories when we were young lads.
We had memorable times and I looked up to him as the younger cousin. I will remember my cousin as the guy with positive energy and he was always smiling.
My deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family for their loss. I hope the fond memories of Jim can help ease the pain of your loss.
RIP Big Jim, love you Cuz
