James Roger Smith, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on September 9th, 2025. He was 70 years old.

Formally known as Roger, was raised by his loving parents, the late James and Nancy Roper Smith. He was taught that family comes first, and he always made sure to live up to that. He was a member of Sheet Metal Union Local #5 as well as owning and operated A-Action Lock and Key Service. His hobbies and interest help define who he was. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing the drums, riding his motorcycle and going to the beach. Each evening was spent watering his flowers and feeding the birds, which he loved. He always had a sense for adventure and would give the greatest advice. Many people will remember him for being entertaining and funny but also for always lending a hand and being a great friend. He was the most loving husband, father and papaw.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Donna Starring Smith, two daughters Courtney McMurtry and Christie Halcomb, one grandson Brevin McMurtry, one granddaughter Lexy (Kyle) Towner, and two great grandchildren Tahlia and Theo Towner.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hearth Hospice of Chattanooga for the care they gave Roger. Especially our loving team: Maggie, Allen, Kierra and Jinnifer.

To honor Roger's wishes, he will be cremated, and the family will be doing a celebration of life at a later date.
