James Lee "Mike" Spratt

James Lee (Mike) Spratt Jr. (1949-2025), of Fort Mill, SC, died peacefully at home Thursday, February 13, with his beloved family by his side. There to help ease his passing were his cherished wife of 53 years Elizabeth Sutton Spratt, dear son Zachary Sutton Spratt, adored daughter-in-law Dr. Allyson Thomas Spratt and two precious grandchildren, Sutton Oliver Spratt and Harper Hurst Spratt.
Mike was a vital and enjoyable part of so many peoples lives. He was a golfing buddy, a public school teacher and administrator, a card player, member of a close cadre of college basketball officials, Chairman of the Riverview Fire District Board, Deacon and Elder at Riverview Presbyterian Church, and a devoted friend to many. He was a true patriot, serving in the US Air Force from 1969-1973, and he loved a few hours spent with a good patriotic book or movie. He lit up rooms with his smile, humor and engaging personality and was always quick with a joke. He was a voracious reader, a trivia champion and loved showing off his knowledge of who sang that 60s song and when. He had a keen mind and could remember details of every golf game he played and Alabama football play he ever saw. One of his most favorite things to do though was take care of his family by planning and cooking delicious, healthy meals. He was always delighted to offer help to anyone who needed it. All in all, his life was one of service. He graduated from Fort Mill High school in 1967, earned a bachelors degree from The University of South Carolina, an MAT from Winthrop University and an Ed S from Converse College. He was predeceased by his father James Lee Spratt, mother Barbara Jean Herron Spratt, devoted stepmother Frances Griffith Spratt and older sister Jean Spratt Jackson (husband Billy). In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his brothers Tom Spratt (wife Alexa), Ed Spratt (wife Karen), and Charles Spratt (wife Shannon) as well as sister-in-law Cathy Bryant and brother and sister-in-law, Chuck Bing and Vicki Sutton. He adored his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He loved and was dearly loved by this family and blessed with his grandchildren living close by and able to visit often with "Pop." When asked how he was, particularly as his health declined, he would answer that he was one of the most blessed people in the world and that he couldn't think of anybody he'd trade places with.
Mikes family mourns his passing and is thankful for the wonderful years they spent together. The family will be holding a drop in visitation at 375 N. Sutton Rd where he always felt so loved, on Sunday, February 23, between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. A private burial service is being planned for the immediate family.
