James Darrell Starr, 93, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on January 16, 2026. He was born on September 20, 1932 in Blair, Oklahoma to Nellie and Carl Starr.
James was a man full of life, known for his spunky personality, warm smile, and quick wit. He never missed an opportunity to tell a good joke and had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome. With a kind and loving heart, James never hesitated to help anyone in need.
He deeply loved his family who were his pride and joy. Family gatherings were especially meaningful to him as they brought everyone together in one place. James, along with his beloved wife Bertha enjoyed travelling to visit family members in and out of state.
James enjoyed playing dominoes and routinely competed in tournaments held in Carnegie, Oklahoma. He also enjoyed fishing and golf on occasion and was a devoted sports fan faithfully cheering on the Oklahoma City Thunder and of course the Sooners. Western movies and TV shows were another favorite pastime.
A dedicated man of faith, James was a longtime member of Crossroads Cathedral in Oklahoma City where he faithfully served as a Deacon for many years. James worked as an Automotive Salesman for Sears where he was known as a hard worker who always provided for his family. After 26 years of dedicated service he retired leaving behind a strong example of commitment and integrity.
James is survived by his three sons; Mike Starr and wife Karen of Norman, Oklahoma; Carl Starr of Midwest City; and Billy Starr of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his brother Danny Starr and wife Jan of Ft Smith, Arkansas. He leaves behind six grandchildren; Tara Bishop and husband Gary, Ashlee Noland and husband Chad, Jennifer Amos and husband Rick, James Starr and wife Tina, Brandie Muncy, and Crystal Jensen and husband Matt; fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
James is preceded in death by his parents Nellie and Carl Starr, wife Bertha Starr, his daughter Debra Muncy, four sisters Bobbie, Melba, Sue, and Shirley; two brothers Don and Gary.
James leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who were blessed to know him.
