James Patrick Stevens, 78 of
Plymouth, MA passed peacefully in his sleep with his daughter by his side early in the morning of Friday, April 18th, 2025. Jim was born in Cambridge, MA on September 2nd, 1946. He spent his formative years in Belmont, finding companionship with his dogs and running around the neighborhood playing with his fathers war relics. Jim started his fascination with metal and the industrial arts early on starting out as a blacksmith and toolmaker in his teens. Jim went on to open his own enterprise where he took on any and all jobs welding related. He pursued various adventures in white water canoeing, hotrod building, model and actual railroading. His technical abilities knew no bounds and his heavy fabrication skills were balanced with the delicate touch and attention to detail needed to create his model railroad masterpieces. A true jack of all trades Jim could fix nearly anything. His craftsmanship shines on in the home he renovated on Sandwich street, with a clear appreciation of taking the time to do things right. He coached and mentored many kids through his years of volunteering with the PNTA Engineering and Robotics team.
He is survived by his daughter Lillian and husband Tim Machos of Franklin, NH, son James and wife Janmarie of Nottingham, NH. His six grandchildren Michael, James, Callahan, Adilyn, Sarah and Bennett were his pride and joy and always eager to teach if they would stop and pay attention. His younger sister Mary and husband Terry of Abington, MA. His sister in law "Annie" Cunningham held a special place in his heart, their friendship growing stronger following the loss of his wife Lillian. "Uncle Jim" was always willing to step in and step up to help his numerous nieces and nephews. Everyone touched by him recognized his tough outside shell was a weak disguise to his caring heart. Jim is predeceased by his beloved wife Lillian with whom he shared 44 years, and his parents Roger and Ruth Stevens of Carver, MA.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at the Cartmell Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth from 4:00-7:00 PM. The funeral service for close family and friends will be held at the same location on Thursday morning at 10:00 am followed by interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Pembroke.
