James was one of the hardest workers, if not the hardest worker any of us ever knew. If he wasn’t spending his days at Haywood Company, he was staying busy doing what he loved most: hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, working on vehicles, building things with his hands, or working in the yard. He found peace in the simple things, especially sitting back and listening to classic country music, with Johnny Cash being one of his favorites. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, with East TN and Chicago holding special places in his heart. James loved to joke and laugh, though he could be serious when the moment called for it. He proudly loved America and strongly believed in the Second Amendment. He carried a tough-love attitude with most, but his heart was soft when it came to his grandchildren. He would do absolutely anything for his family and closest friends.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Campbell Stoots of Brownsville, TN; son, Jimmy Stoots (Brenda) of Brownsville, TN; daughter, Mindi Case of Jackson, TN; brother, Larry Stoots; sisters, Margaret Reasons and Vicky Stoots; and three grandchildren, Hannah Stoots, Zachary Stoots and Vivian Hatcher.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Roger Delbert and Edith Ferguson Stoots; his first wife, the mother of his children, Margie Stoots; daughter, Kim Stoots; brothers Robert Stoots and Harvey Stoots; and two sisters, Frances Sorrell and Hazel Pittman.

Pallbearers for the service are Branon Fergie, Colton Qualls, Danny Austin, Gerald Whittemore, Glenn Stoots and Dale Saitta.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Friends of Heart, 74 Directors Row, Jackson, TN 38305. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
