Dr. J. Thad Strange
Dr. J. Thad Strange was born December 1, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana and passed away
December 22, 2024 at his home in Madison, Mississippi. His family moved to Starkville in 1954 and Thad grew from a toddler to a young man in the country among the pecan trees and farmland of Central Mississippi. He quickly adopted the Mississippi State Bulldogs as the team to root for during football season.
Thad began his career as an Architect after graduating from Auburn University in 1977 with a B.S. in Architectural Building. In addition to many other projects, he was the architect in charge of constructing a condominium resort at Sugar Mountain, North Carolina which is still in operation today.
At 40 he decided to change careers and enrolled at the University of Mississippi Dental School where he graduated in 1995 as a Doctor of Dental Medicine. And, in 1997 he graduated from the University of West Virginia with a Masters Degree in Endodontic Dentistry. He began his Endodontist practice in 1997 in Flowood, Mississippi and eventually had offices in Flowood, Starkville, Jackson, McComb and Meridian. He retired in 2023.
In addition to his career in dentistry, Thad had an ability to reconstruct, repair or build almost anything. He was also a talented artist, accomplished golfer and avid hunter. And, he was also known for his special popcorn making skills, his perfect whistle and his ringtone of 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'.
But perhaps his most important attribute, was the fact that he was the most kind, loving, generous and thoughtful person anyone could ever meet. Thad could always be counted on in anyone's time of need.
Left to cherish his memories are:
His loving wife Andrea of Madison, MS. His sister, Suzanne "Suzy" Townsend and husband Gary of Spanish Fort, AL.
His children: J. Thaddeus Strange II and wife Lauren and grandchildren Caroline and J. Thaddeus III of Albertville, AL. Dr. C. Stewart Strange and wife Cassi and grandchildren Waverly and Dempsey of Jackson, MS Dr's. Matthew Strange and wife Melissa and grandchildren William and Logan of Denver, CO. Adelaide Hays and husband Andrew and grandchild Isabelle of Sulphur, LA. Roger Strange of Nashville, TN. Allie Audibert and husband Ricky and grandchild Lincoln of Covington, LA. Emily Campbell and husband Hunter of New Orleans, LA. Tate Walker Navarro of Baton Rouge, LA.
Thad was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Dempsey Strange, M.D., Betty Strange and by his brother John M. Strange.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Martinque Clubhouse at 121 Peninsula Drive, Madison, MS 39110.
Flowers may be sent to the clubhouse on the day of the service or in lieu of flowers a donation in Thad's name may be made to a favorite charity or church.

Growing up in Starkville was a privilege and boundless fun... especially when friends included the Strange family. I recall playing in their backyard on Gillespie St. They had the best swing set in town. That play turned into wiffle ball games in their front yard on Hwy 389, swimming pool races out back, and late night loud music in the basement. Yes, all basement events included Thad's famous popcorn! "... kind, loving, generous and thoughtful..." I remember those attributes well! Like many others, I was a beneficiary. My vehicle always had something that needed fixed or improved. I never asked for help. Thad simply took the initiative and the time. He was brilliant and creative. I recall him installing a device, self-built, that allowed the driver to pull a hidden lever under the vehicle's seat (old International pickup truck). When you did, it sounded like the Indy 500! I can see his huge smile right now after we tested it for the first time! I also vividly remember listening to his beautiful Mom tell funny stories and always offering some much needed guidance. My deepest sympathy to all of Thad's family. Praying that many wonderful memories will soon replace the grief. Thanks for all the great times. RIP Thad.
