James Byron Thompson

James "Jim" Byron Thompson passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on February 1, 2026, in Madera Ranchos, California. Jim was born on October 2, 1943, in Inola, Oklahoma, and was raised in Wewoka, Oklahoma. In 1961, he made California his home, where he would build a life defined by hard work, service, and devotion to family.

Jim proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 40 years of his career to working as a diesel mechanic, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic, skill, and steady hands. Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Alice Thompson; his son, James Byron Thompson II and wife Diana Thompson; his daughter, Gina Johnston; and his son, David Guerra and Michael A. Thompson. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Joshua Johnston, Alyssa Danforth, and Kristi Johnston, as well as his great-granddaughter, Gianna Johnston. Jim is further survived by his sisters, Mary Thompson and Sandy Wall.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William "Dick" Thompson, his mother, Rose Iana Thompson and father George A. Thompson.

Jim's legacy of quiet strength, dedication, and love for his family will live on in all who knew him.
