James Kevin Vick, age 67, of
Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 13, 1957, in Olathe, Kansas, a son of William "Bill" T. Vick, Jr., and Marjorie H. (Brown) Vick.
James grew up in Olathe, Kansas, and graduated from De Soto High School in 1975. Over the course of his life, he had the opportunity to pursue a variety of careers, one of them being his time as an over-the-road truck driver. This job allowed him to travel extensively and see much of the United States.
However, like many, life has its challenges, and there came a time when he found himself facing hard times, but his family was there to catch him. James reached out to his son for support. This led to a fresh start in Jefferson City, where James moved in with Kevin and his family, spending the next 13 years by their side. These years became a turning point, allowing James to rebuild his life and rekindle important family relationships, which gave him a deep sense of accomplishment.
Though James was a private man, he opened up when it came to football-a passion he shared with his son and grandsons. A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, he was always in their corner, cheering them on. As the Chiefs chase a three-peat this year, James will be cheering from above. Beyond football, he also enjoyed NASCAR, escaping into a good book, and watching movies. But what brought him the most joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Despite his health declining, he still found time to work as a Dasher for DoorDash, all while maintaining a playful and loving bond with his grandchildren. Whether running them to school when they missed the bus or playing games on his computer, his "big kid" spirit was a source of entertainment for them all.
Growing up, James was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts, earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his leadership, community involvement, and dedication. These values were ones he passed down to his children. He also loved Andrea's home-cooked meals, always willing to try whatever new dish she made, though his favorite was her yellow cake with chocolate icing.
Family was at the heart of everything James did, and being involved in his grandchildren's lives meant the world to him. He took pride in watching them grow, often playing a role of support-whether it was running errands or sharing laughs over a "dad joke." Above all, James was incredibly proud of his family, and his greatest joy came from simply being with them.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Vick and his wife Andrea and their children, Chloe, Tommy, and Adam Vick of
Jefferson City, Mo., and Arthur Vick and his children, Ian, Shelby, Daniel and John Vick of Dardanelle, Ark.; two brothers, Terry Vick and wife Sondra Schramm of Olathe, Ks., and William "Bill" Vick and wife Charlotte of Dardanelle, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, infant Marjorie Vick, Michael "Bubba" Vick, and Timothy "Tim" Vick.
A celebration of life service for James will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.
