James “Jimmie” Waire, 89 of Shrewsbury, formerly of Worcester, passed away at Shrewsbury Nursing Home on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
Jimmie was born on June 6, 1935 in Aliceville, Alabama, a son of the late Fannie May (Waire) Wells and John Hodgest and moved to Worcester in 1965. He worked as custodial staff for Wachusett Regional High School for many years before his retirement. Jimmie loved cooking, fishing, hunting and gardening and at one time owned his own landscaping business.
Jimmie is survived by his daughter, Joyce Waire of Stone Mountain, GA.; a son, James S. Waire and his wife Michelle of Millbury; a stepsister, Marion Davis of Worcester; five grandchildren, Shavon Walker, Kayla Waire, Kia Waire, Mathias Waire, and Maya Waire; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his former wife and mother of his children, Eula M. (Madison) Waire; a son, Lawrence Mason; two brothers, Michael and John Hodgest; two sisters, Rosie (Hodgest) Shields and Rose Hargrove.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 4-5 pm immediately followed by a funeral service at 5:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will be held privately.
