James M. "Jimmy" Welch, 67, died Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his home.
Born November 10, 1955, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Howard "Bubba" Welch and the late Betty Windham Welch. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed as a truck driver. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and fisherman. He loved attending his grandchildren's extracurricular activities and was their biggest fan and supporter.
Survivors include four children, Neal Welch (Candice), Nathan Welch, Craig Welch (Danielle), and Elizabeth Daughrity (J.D.) all of Sumter; grandchildren, Hannah Daughrity, Wyatt Welch, Knox Welch, Hayes Daughrity, Conway Welch, Jase Welch, Naomi Welch, Harper Daughrity, and Eli Welch; siblings, Debbie Byrd (Terry) of Durham, NC, Janet Newman (Whit) of Sumter, Danny Welch of Sumter, and Violet Peele (Kenny) of North, SC; special friends, Terry Gibbons, and Mickey Blaylock Wheeler; a special "brother-in-law", Harmie Geddings; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 5 P.M. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Wayne McElveen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 P.M. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, 108 Robbins Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Upward Call Ministries, 3660 Furman Rd., Sumter, SC 29154.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
