James West, 67, of Madrid, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2025. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, August 1, 2025 at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Funeral services will be at 10:30am, Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Polk City, Iowa. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Madrid. The funeral services will be livestreamed for those unable to attend. Please go to the church website at www.polkcity.church.
James was born November 4, 1957, and graduated from Albia High School, Albia, Iowa, Class of 1976. On July 23, 1979, he was united in marriage to Judy Sanders at Salem Lutheran Church in Forest Green, Missouri. They made their home in Madrid, where they raised their three children, Jessica, Brian and Daniel.
James worked for 35 years at the Woodward Resource Center, Woodward, Iowa. He coached youth sports for many years and was a volunteer fireman (1983-2007) for Madrid. He was a member of the Booster Club and a huge supporter of Madrid athletics. He ran a sports card shop and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Commanders. He enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
James is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Jessica (Wayne) Thompson; son, Brian (Cory) West; grandchildren, Ethan Thompson, Avery West, Reagan West, Jacob Thompson and Alex Thompson; as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and Violet West and son, Daniel West.
