Timothy "Tim" Allen Selby, age 67, of Bussey, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by his loved ones.
Tim was born on May 10, 1958, in Albia, IA, to Francis Eugene and Madge Arlene (Spurgin) Selby. He grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School with the class of 1976. Tim was blessed with 3 children, Andrea, Tyler, and Mikey. He later met Mary Jo Grimes and gained 2 more children, Steven and Katie.
Tim was an iron worker for Midwest Services for several years, a few of them being in California. He was extremely talented, and was a working member of Local Union #234 for 20+ years until his retirement, where he operated a crane for numerous contractors throughout the state.
Tim enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and boating at the river and the Ozarks. He also enjoyed hunting with the highlight being spending time with his family at "deer camp." In his younger years, he enjoyed riding dirtbikes and motorcycles and was known for being fearless. Tim had a great sense of humor. He never knew a stranger and loved to joke with others. He had an infectious smile, lighting up every room and filling it with laughter. He was always the life of the party and enjoyed singing karaoke any chance he got. Tim also had a generous heart often felt through his huge hugs. Tim had a love for dogs, especially Casey and Murphy. Above all else, Tim loved his family and cherished the time spent with them, especially his grandchildren, whom affectionately called him "Papa."
Tim is survived by the love of his life, Mary Jo Grimes; his children, Andrea (Steven Thomas) Selby, Tyler (Abby) Selby; Mikey (Sarah) Haluska, Steven (Lindsay) Grimes, and Katie Nichols; 12 grandchildren, Cole, Tess, Meghan, Jace, Saylor, Gunner, Weber, Ripley, Nora, Evelyn, Leigh, Reagan, and one on the way; 1 great grandchild, Vivian and one on the way; siblings, Valerie (Rick) Small and Kirby (Pam) Selby; and a sister-in-law, Lisa Selby. Tim is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Madge Selby; a grandson, Cameron Haluska; a brother, Richard Selby; a sister, Brenda Selby; a stepson, Christopher; a niece, Megan Selby; and a cousin, Clay Rhoads.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Tim's family present throughout to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Chuck Courtney officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
