James Lyle Widick

James Lyle Widick, age 94, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2024, at the Elizabeth House. Born on July 17, 1929, in Belle Plaine (Sumner County), KS, he was the son of the late Ray Floyd Widick and Hazel Mae Finnerty Widick.
Mr. Widick was a Retired Lieutenant Colonel and Veteran in the the United States Army. During his service to our country, he served in the Korean Conflict and served three tours in Vietnam. Ret. Lieutenant Colonel Widick received the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Bronze Star Medal, the Parachutist Badge (Sr. & Master), the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Air Medal; the Presidential Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, (4) O/S Service Bars, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
In addition to his parents who were married for 54 years, Floyd and Hazel Widick, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Veronica M. Widick. Left to cherish his memory include his children, Debbie Henderson (Jim), Sandra Haxton (Thomas), James Widick, II (Arlene), Austin Klotz (David), and Kimberly Widick; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service at Arlington National Cemetery with Military Honors will be announced at a future date. In memory of Ret. Lieutenant Colonel Widick, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to the Fisher House Foundation. Shuler Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
