James 'Jerry' Gerald Wright, Jr., of Castroville, passed away on August 20, 2023 at the age of 80. He was born April 23, 1943 in Poteet, Texas to the late James Gerald Wright, Sr. and Sophie Rakowitz Wright.
Jerry graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1961. He served in the United States Navy for two and a half years and one year in the Naval Seabees. After his time in the military, he worked civil service at Kelly Air Force base for over thirty-six years as a machinist.
On October 12, 1968, Jerry married Eugenia Ann Benke at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. They were blessed with forty-five years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2014. Jerry was a member of the St. Louis Men's Society and the American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460. He loved to go deer hunting, fishing, putting puzzles together, and attending church. He also enjoyed traveling to Colorado. He enjoyed judging and making wine with the San Antonio Regional Wine Guild.
Survivors include his children, Celeste Utley (Gregory) of Spring, Denise Wright of Castroville, and Gerald Wright of San Antonio; granddaughter, Rachel Utley; siblings, Gladys Scheidt (Hermann) of Pleasanton, Rose Pennartz (Sam) of Rio Medina, Betty Jean Ferrill (Wayne) of Pleasanton, and Benny Wright of Austin; numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Eugenia Wright.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
Memorials may be made in Jerry's memory to St. Louis Men's Society or to the American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460 Scholarship Fund.
