James Otis Wynn passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on Sunday September 28th. He was 95. He is survived by his older sister Louise, his son James and his wife Carolyn and their children Alice and Jimmy, as well as his son Shaun, and Jim’s lifetime companion and caregiver Virginia Wynn. He will also be missed by many greatly beloved nieces and nephews. He was beloved brother to his late sisters Marie and Helen, and brothers Russel, Richard, and Walter. James was the son of the late Otis James and Helen (Yeager).
Jim grew up on Saxon Street in the Savin hill Area of Boston during the Great Depression. He met his future wife, Alice Prendergast, at Cathedral High School in the South End of Boston. They were married on February 1st, 1958. Alice passed after a battle with breast cancer twelve years later on May 9th, 1970.
Jim volunteered with the United States Air Force to help fight in the Korean War on July 13th, 1950. He was in a terrible accident and recovered in Fort Devins Army Hospital from August 23rd ,1953 to February 4th, 1954. He had served faithfully with the Military Police in the 59th Air Police Squadron Airman 2nd Class at Burtonwood Air Force Base, Warrington, U.K. Jim had planned on being an immigration Patrol Inspector in 1957 with a score of 99 on the Civil Service Exam.
When Jim married Alice, he took a job with the Unted States Postal Service. He retired March 1st, 1985, after 32 years of devoted service.
Jim enjoyed golfing and skiing and sharing old jokes with his friends at the McKeon Post in Dorchester. Jim greatly enjoyed marching in the annual Veterans Parade and never missed a birthday card to his grandchildren. Jim enjoyed recalling great old stories and immensely enjoyed spending time with family. He also had a talent for drawing and attended the Butera School of Art in Boston.
Jim frequently expressed his gratitude for all those who cared for him throughout his life. His family is very grateful for the compassionate care given to him recently at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury, Hancock Park in Quincy and at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
Jim will be laid to rest beside his wife Alice, whose joyful and loving spirit lives ever on in their Sons, Grandchildren and Family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the funeral service which will be celebrated on Friday 10/10/2025 at 11 AM in ST. JOSEPH'S CEMETERY WEST ROXBURY, 990 Langrange Street. See www.Keohane.com for directions and online condolences.
After the graveside service family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate Jim's life at The Common Market, 97 Willard St. ,Quincy, starting at 12:30.
