It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jimmy" Yoakum, age 38, of Ballston Spa, NY and Monroe, MI, on September 17, 2025. Born on December 31, 1986, in Albany, NY, Jimmy was a deeply cherished son, brother, and friend, whose creativity, warmth, and kind heartedness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Jimmy was a true artist in every sense of the word. A naturally gifted, self-taught musician, he had an uncanny ability to pick up any instrument and bring it to life. Whether strumming a guitar, coaxing melody from piano keys, or plucking strings on a ukulele, or "uke" as he would fondly refer to his favorite instrument, music seemed to speak through him with ease and authenticity. His love for sound was not something he learned - it was something he was.

Jimmy also had a passion for the culinary arts that matched his musical talent. He worked in kitchens all over town, pouring his heart into every dish and taking pride in the meals he created. Holidays were never complete without Jimmy in the kitchen, finishing sauces, carving turkeys, or adding his signature flair to family favorites. Cooking for loved ones, especially his mom, was one of his greatest joys - a way of showing love without needing to say a word.

Beyond his talents, Jimmy had a kind, humorous and generous spirit; he would borrow $20 but would always split it with you. He was also an animal lover, always the first to kneel and greet a stray, or give affection to a family pet. His compassion extended to everyone he met. He had a gentle soul, a warm smile, and a way of making others feel seen and cared for.

Jimmy is survived by his loving mother, Janelle Coffey; his father, James "SlimJim" Yoakum and his fiancée Jenifer; stepmother Kimmy Yoakum; stepfather Robert Coffey; sisters, Reid (Jordan) Keefe, Danielle Yoakum and Madison Yoakum, grandparents Jeff (Mary) Stanley and Betty and Buddy Lamb, cousin-brothers Timmy, Johnny and Travis, and his beloved pit bull, Nessy. They carry his memory forward in every song that plays, every shared meal, and every quiet, kind gesture that reflects the man he was.

Jimmy's life, though far too short, was rich with passion. His absence is deeply felt, but his spirit will continue to echo in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Rest easy, Jimmy. Your music, your meals, and your memory will never fade.
