James Maurice Young, II, devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, peacefully transitioned from this earth into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 14, 2023, at the age of 52. He left this world surrounded by the love of his family and the echoes of a life well-lived.
Jim lived most of his life in Nashville, Tennessee, where he combined his strong sense of community with a passion for serving others. He was a remarkable individual, known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
In 1988, Jim met his future wife, Michele, and they began a journey together that spanned over 34 years of shared joys, challenges, and unwavering companionship. Their bond was a testament to the power of enduring love, and Jim leaves behind a legacy of commitment, loyalty, and cherished memories.
As a father, Jim was the epitome of love and guidance. His children, Jacob and Andrew, were his pride and joy, and in turn, Jim was their very best friend. They relied on Jim for advice, guidance, and inspiration. In love, Jim imparted valuable life lessons, encouraged them to pursue their dreams, and supported them through every triumph and disappointment. He coached all of his sons' sports, assisted with every school project, and poured his heart and soul into his children. He created a warm and nurturing home, filled with love and laughter, where wonderful family traditions were born.
Jim inherited family values from his parents, Jim and Carole. It was from them he not only developed his strong values but also a deep sense of compassion. His parents instilled in him the importance of integrity, hard work, and the value of family bonds.
Growing up alongside his sister, Leigh, Jim shared a deep sibling friendship filled with joyful, common experiences. Their relationship was characterized by laughter, understanding, and a connection that withstood the test of time. Leigh was more than a sister; she was a lifelong friend.
Jim had a strong bond with his nieces and nephew. He shared his wisdom with them and made the simplest moments memorable. Being an uncle wasn't just a title; it was a cherished opportunity to play a purposeful and influential role in their lives.
Jim's life was enriched by the deep and enduring friendships he cultivated over the years. His friends were more than companions; they were true brothers. Whether in childhood, work, or shared interests, Jim's ability to forge meaningful connections spoke volumes about his character. Each friend left a lasting mark on his heart.
Professionally, Jim proudly served the Bellevue community as an engineer, firefighter, and first responder medic. He was dedicated to serving his community and those in need during the 28 years he worked for the Metro Nashville Fire Department. His colleagues remember him not only for his professionalism, but also for his gentle heart, patience, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Jim is survived by a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law whom we feel certain welcomed Jim into heaven with open arms. While his physical presence may be gone, the memories of his love, wisdom, and laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 11AM, at Bellevue Church of Christ. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 9AM until the service time at 11AM, all at Bellevue Church of Christ. Burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens.
As we bid farewell to Jim, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives, the lessons he imparted, and the love that will endure in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love that he so freely gave during his time on this Earth.
Flowers are being accepted at Compassion on Tuesday and any time after 8:30AM on Wednesday at the church.
