Obituary of Jan Martin Filipek
Jan Martin Filipek was born in Germany on May 14, 1948. He moved to the United States of America at the age of 3 and was adopted by Louis Frank Filipek and Clara (Pelkey) Filipek. He attended Erie Mason Consolidated Schools before graduating from Ida High School.
Jan worked as a janitor for more than seventeen years at the Libby Glass Company. At this same time his father was employed in the office.
Jan loved all types of music and classic movies. He was a fabulous uncle to his many nieces and nephews as they grew up.
Jan Martin Pelkey, age 75, of Monroe passed away at home on Friday; June 9, 2023. His passing was preceded by his parents and a great niece: Kennedy Mayes.
To cherish his memory, Jan leaves a sister: Marcella (James) Smith of Monroe, Michigan; four nieces and nephews: Kristy Smith of Monroe, Ryan (Andreanna) Smith of Monroe, Tyler Smith of Lincoln Park, and Mallorie Smith of Monroe; six great nieces and nephews: Gaetano (Krista) Paolino, Mariah Smith, Brody Smith, Hannah Smith, Korbin Smith, and Kingsley MacLean.
No public services are planned. His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan. His cremated remains will be placed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Filipek Family to assist with funeral arrangements. Online guests may leave words of inspiration and comfort or share a photo by visiting www.merklefs.com.
