Jan H. Hamilton
Janice (Jan) H. Hamilton, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home on October 18, 2025. Jan leaves behind a legacy of generosity and compassion that touched countless lives.
Born on April 21, 1947, in Cumming, GA, Jan was the second oldest of five children. She was a proud graduate of North Georgia College, where she earned her degree in education and psychology in 1970. Her commitment to helping others led her to pursue a master's degree in counseling from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
During her 20-year residence in New Jersey, Jan distinguished herself as a feature writer for the Asbury Park Press, the second-largest newspaper in the state. She also excelled in retail sales, becoming the top salesman in the New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut area while working for Express.
Upon returning to Georgia, Jan joined the Ralph Lauren Corporation, where she served as a brand ambassador and mentor to many for 22 years until her retirement in 2025. Her dedication and skill made her a top district seller, reflecting her natural ability to connect with people and her commitment to excellence.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents James and Frances Hughes, older brother Jay Hughes, younger brother Gene Hughes, younger sister Cheryl Cole, and nephew Ryan Nix.
Jan is survived by her son and pride and joy, Vincent Hamilton, and his wife Lauren Hamilton of Atlanta, GA; her loving sister, Julie Nix, of Dawsonville, GA; and husband, Eastern Airlines Captain (RET) James R. Hamilton Jr., of Dawsonville, GA.
She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: nephew Wyatt Nix and his wife Stefanie Nix of Cumming, GA; niece Ciera Cole and her husband Kevin Park of Dallas, TX; great-niece Mya Nix of Cumming, GA; niece Cara Nix and great-nephew Ryan Chayden Nix of Bedford, KY.
Jan is also survived by Heather and Jim Wasnick of Atlanta, GA; Southwest Airlines Captain Jim Hamilton of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law George Tod Cole of Simi Valley, CA; and countless friends including John Simpson, Pam Gilleland, and Henny Dulaney, as well as colleagues from Polo Ralph Lauren.
A memorial visitation will be held at Bearden Funeral Home on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Allen Jones will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University of North Georgia Eagle Fund, which provides support for members of the Corps of Cadets who demonstrate leadership potential, qualities of high moral character, and are actively pursuing a commission in the U.S. Armed Forces [unggive.org/eagle-fund].
Jan's generous spirit and unwavering commitment to helping others will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of giving will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
Please feel welcome to wear your favorite Ralph Lauren outfit.

I met Jan 15-20 years ago after meeting Julie through church. Her legacy speaks of a life fully lived. I was saddened to read of Gene's previous passing also. I know they both loved the Lord and their family.
May the memories you have of this special lady give you peace and happiness as you celebrate her life.
Deepest condolences.
