Jan A Rahn (Strattan), 78, Indianapolis, IN passed away on October 25, 2025 in Indianapolis, IN. She was born on April 14, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN.

She is survived by Husband Dennis Rahn Married 10/26/2002 in Gatlinburg Tennessee; 2 Nephews, Scott, Chris Roberts; 10 great Nieces and Nephews and 5 Great Great Nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by, parents Ray and Mickey Strattan; sister Pam Strattan Holmes; brother Mike.

Jan dearly loved her family. Jan served 37 years as a sworn police officer for the Indianapolis Police Department working primarily as an accident investigator. She retired in 2005. She has the distinction of being the longest serving female officer in IPD history, a record that will never be broken since the merger creating IMPD. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Gamma Pi Chapter. She was a member for over 40 years. She served as Chapter president, as well as Indiana State President and president of MARC, Midwest Area Regional Conference which at that time encompassed 8 states. As part of the sorority she participated in the St. Jude’s Hospital marathon for over 20 years. She participated in several other charities, her other favorite being Camp Riley. She was a member of St Jude catholic Church. She volunteered in the parish center once a week and many other events. She was an avid teddy bear collector for many years, having over 550. She loved her bears. She loved to travel having the opportunity to visit Australia, British Isles and Stockholm Sweden along with hundreds of trips inside the U.S. One of her favorites was a two-week cruise to Alaska. She worked for over 20 years at Christmas time wrapping gifts for customers at Von Maur. Her packages were the envy of all. She was an avid Pacers and IU basketball fan. Rarely missing a game on TV. She also was a dedicated bingo player, if there was a purse bingo on the south side she was there. She will be terribly missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 10:00AM at St. Jude’s Catholic Church 5353 Mcfarland Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46227 with 1 hour visitation starting at 9:00am prior to service. Visitation will be Wednesday October 29, 2025 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 5353 Mcfarland Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Officiating will be Father Peter Marshall. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. 

In Lieu of Flowers please donate to the St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN & Camp Rilley, Bradford woods.
