Obituary published on Legacy.com by George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home (Southside) - Jacksonville on Jul. 9, 2025.
A life-long Roman Catholic, now safe in the arms of Jesus, Jane Angelica Coy, age 91, born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 10, 1933, the only daughter and third child born to the late Joseph A. DaDeppo and Tidy F. (Barnabo) DaDeppo, made her final transition to her eternal rest abiding in Gods light, peace and love on August 13, 2024 after a long and fulfilling life. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.Jane graduated from Western High School in Detroit where she was a member of the Womens Swim Team. While working as a secretary for the U. S. Army Ordinance Tank Automotive Command she married Darwin O Coy on November 30, 1957. After almost 68 years of marriage, she remained ever proud of her husband and her family. At the mention of her son Donald (Linda) Coy, daughter Susan (Richard) Phelan, grandson Richard, Jr. (Tori) Phelan, granddaughter Emily (Austin Newgreen) Phelan, and twin great grandsons Charlie and Henry Phelan, her eyes emitted a warm happy glow and her countenance an overall radiance of absolute pleasure and joy.Jane said the thought she was put on earth to do three things - to love and care for her family, to volunteer to help her community and country, and to do needle work (not always in that order). She volunteered in libraries and media centers as she followed the progress of her children from elementary through high school. Jane worked in the rectory office at Christ the King Catholic Church for seven years; was president of the Arlington Lioness Club for three years; served as the National Administrator for the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for three years; volunteered on the National Coast Guard Auxiliary Staff for eleven years; was a plank member of the National Department of Homeland Security; and worked for many years as a volunteer with the U. S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in
Jacksonville, FL Jane was honored for her work and accomplishments with numerus Citations, Commendations, Awards and Letters, from the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, from National and District Auxiliary Commodores, from political figures, and from her peers. Cherished among these recognitions is her LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD from the Office of the President of the United States. A very special recognition for Jane was being chosen, during the time leading to the Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, Georgia, to have the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch for a part of its journey along the coast of Florida.Unfortunately, open heart surgery requiring the replacement of her aortic valve greatly curtailed this phase of her volunteer work. Simultaneously it did give a boost to the more domestic part of her volunteer work. Jane made and donated hundreds of dozens of more than twenty-five varieties of cookies to charity at Christmas and her needle work efforts flourished. Janes home has on display many sizes and styles of handcrafted needle work art. Jane was a perfectionist; as demonstrated by her unravelling of three foot of an almost completed Afghan because she had dropped a single stitch. The back of the piece of needle work had to look as good as the front.Quiet and unpretentious Jane sought to focus not on herself, but rather on agencies and individuals needing volunteer assistance. While in our hearts we mourn her loss, we take comfort in knowing she no longer suffers the pain and frustrations of her last days. Honoring Jane A. Coys legacy we invite contribution to the Arlington Lions Eye Center in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made through the Arlington Lions Club, 6523 Commerce Street,
Jacksonville, Fl.As per Janes specific request for simplicity she will be remembered only in a Funeral Mass to be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Arlington Road in
