On March 2, 2025, Jane Ilene Farquhar of Elkton, SD passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Jane was born April 14, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Charles, Sr. and Jane (Hyde) Howard. She received her education in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1959. During high school is where she met her husband Jerry Ellis Farquhar and is when they were married on November 15, 1958.
Jane was a stay-at-home housewife, and mother to her daughter Kathy, born in 1960, and later son, Jerry Douglas (Doug) born in 1965. Jane was a Den Mother for Doug's Boy Scouts and followed her daughter around to rodeos as they shared a love for horses. Jane began working once her children were older at the Ottumwa Courier in Ottumwa Iowa. She and her husband divorced in January of 1982, at which time Jane changed career paths and worked as a nurse's aide at the St. Joseph Hospital and later specialized as a phlebotomist. She later moved to the Elkton area to be closer to her daughter (Kathy) and first grandchild (Kristie). She held many jobs, all involving customer service skills. Once Jane retired, she spent her days helping care for her great-grandchildren.
Jane could be strong willed, but her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her pets. She enjoyed helping care for her grand and great-grandchildren attending all their sporting events, school activities and 4-H events. She could always be found in the stands at every event, home or away. When Jane wasn't at an event, she loved tending to her flower gardens, hanging bird feeders to watch the birds; her favorite were the yellow finches and hummingbirds. She enjoyed collecting angel figurines and bells, sewing, ceramics and spending time with her animals. Jane was deeply cherished by her family and close friends leaving behind everlasting memories her family will cherish forever.
She is survived by her children Kathy (Richard) Snook, and Jerry "Doug" Farquhar; grandchildren, Kristie (Aaron) Thompson, Charlene (Brian) Rose, Dakota (Michael) Keninger, Alex Farquhar; and great-grandchildren, Bailey (John) Merry, Lane Thompson, Maddisyn Thompson, Everett Rose and Althea Rose.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles, Sr. and Jane (Hyde) Howard; brothers, Charles Howard, Jr., and Glenn Howard; sisters, Fern E. Bennett, Alice Beaver; and three infant sisters, Eva, Violet and Mable Howard.
A Private family memorial service will be held. Jane will be at her final resting place next to her parents at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa Iowa.
