Jane Goodall was born on September 16, 1927, in Oklahoma City to Oscar Earle Hopkins and Elinor Slagle Stinson. She died peacefully in her home at Epworth Villa Memory care on November 9, 2024.
Jane graduated from Northeast High School in 1945 and attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. She graduated in 1949 with a degree in elementary education. She taught 3rd grade and then 4th and 5th grade in the OKC School District from 1949 to 1951. In 1951 she moved to Dayton, OH and worked as a Weight Analyst at Wright Patterson AFB. In 1952, she moved to Dallas, Texas to work for Temco Aircraft as a Weight Analyst. In 1955, she moved to Tulsa, OK and worked at Douglas Aircraft as an Associate Engineer of Weights and Balance. In 1960, she began her 23-year career at Western Electric beginning as an Engineer Associate, then a Senior Engineer and finally as their first female Department Chief.
Jane married Hugh Justin Goodall on December 14, 1963, and was married to Hugh for 53 years before his death in 2017. Jane and Hugh enjoyed many activities over the years. When Jane retired in 1983, they taught Computer classes to Seniors at Baptist Hospital and Public Speaking classes at St Luke's UMC. They took up painting and had many of their beautiful paintings displayed in their home. Jane loved animals and was a supporter of Free to Live Animal Sanctuary. Jane owned many dogs throughout her life and each of them brought her tremendous joy. When she was no longer able to care for her own dog, she was so excited to talk to and touch any dog she met. Her great niece Emily Stuckey enlightened Jane's time at Epworth Villa by bringing her dog Agatha to visit each time she was in town.
Jane served as President of the Oklahoma Engineering and Technical Guidance Council and as President of the High Noon Professional Woman Organization. She was also active in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Logan County and Edmond Genealogy Societies.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Goodall, her parents Oscar and Elinor Hopkins, sisters Katherine Doyle and Elinor St. Pierre, brothers James Stinson Hopkins and Oscar Earl Hopkins Jr, nephew Mark Alan Hopkins, Mike Hopkins, and niece Suzanne Sappington.
She is survived by nieces Caroline Stuckey, Lynn Hopkins, Amy Hopkins, Helen Barlow, nephews Stuart Hopkins and wife Ginny, James St Pierre, great nieces Emily Stuckey and Heather Beach, great nephews Scott Stuckey, Jason Stuckey and Aric Sappington, her pretend daughter Ann Fenwick Borah and husband Bob Borah, grandchildren Jason Borah and wife Rebekah Borah, Christopher Borah and wife Jodee Borah, Emily Bailey and husband Tommy Bailey, 6 great grandchildren, Jacob Borah, Annelise Borah, Jonathan Borah, Benny Borah, Ellie Borah and Tom Borah.
