JANE LORRAINE GRUVER
November 30, 1925 – February 28, 2025
Jane was born in Hoquiam, Washington to Michael and Charlotte (McCloskey) Litven, on November 30, 1925. She grew up in Hoquiam with older sister Evelyn (Davis) and younger brother Michael.
Jane graduated from Hoquiam High School and immediately enrolled in Central Washington University, then known as Central Washington College of Education, where she fulfilled her long-time goal of becoming a teacher of English. She began a decades-long career in 1946, teaching 8th grade English at Shelton Junior High. She retired in 1981. Over the years, Jane enjoyed encounters with former students, and was always interested to hear about their life journeys beyond 8th grade.
Jane married Lloyd Gruver in 1948. They made their residence in Shelton and together raised four daughters. Their initial home was the first to be constructed by the Shelton High School carpentry class! Jane and Lloyd were loyal followers of Shelton High School football and basketball, despite having no participating offspring. In retirement, the couple enjoyed annual winter-time travels to sunny destinations in Hawaii and California. Jane was active in professional organizations such as Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW, Retired Teachers Association, and the CWSU Alumni Association. She also volunteered countless hours to civic causes, including Mason General Hospital, Shelton Chamber of Commerce, St Edward Parish, Timberland Library, Mason Historical Society, etc. She was an avid reader and follower of local news and events until her final days.
Jane's survivors include daughters Sandi, Shari, Sheila, and Suzi, four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren.
Her favorite color was green.
Burial arrangements were made by Shelton Memorial Park and Woodlawn Funeral Home of Lacey. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Jane, please visit our Tree Store.
