WINTHROP – Jane Pulsifer Lambert, 94, passed away on Friday October 17, 2025. She died peacefully with family by her side. Jane joins her beloved husband, Leo ("Umpa"), who passed away in 2003. Jane and Leo were married on July 4, 1958. They spent most of their lives in Winthrop, Maine and Jane was blessed with a loving family and amazing group of friends.
Jane was born in Berlin, NH, June 8, 1931, the only child of Dr. Tappan Pulsifer, M.D. and his wife Florence. Jane is survived by her five children David, Kathy, Steve, Karen, Carol, their spouses, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many who called Jane their second mom.
When Jane turned 16, she got her driver's license. She drove a Model A Ford from Berlin, NH to California and back, stopping at national parks along the way. She was accompanied by her father, her uncle, and her older cousin, but drove all the way herself because she was the only one who had a driver's license. She had spunk!
Jane attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated nursing school from the New England Baptist School of Nursing (part of Beth Israel Hospital) in Boston, MA and spent most of her career as a nurse in the psychiatric unit of the Augusta Mental Health Institute in Augusta, Maine. She also worked part-time as a nurse at a school for special needs children.
For many years, Jane enjoyed annual "girl's weeks" in Cape Cod with close friends, leaving the husbands to care for all the kids. Jane also took a wonderful cruise, with a friend, to Norway and Croatia, where she swam in the Red Sea.
Jane and Leo, had many adventures camping with family and friends. They traveled the US in their RV, including a month-long trip to Alaska. They backpacked throughout England staying at hostels. They enjoyed special vacations with close friends traveling to Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, and Quebec City to name a few.
Jane was a long-time volunteer for the Maine Lung Association, the Trek Across Maine, and spent many years supporting local blood drives. She had many hobbies and interests but most of her time was spent sewing, quilting and being the town seamstress to friends. She loved to play cribbage, keeping a log of ALL of her wins and losses. Jane attended many performances at the Brunswick Theater (held season tickets for over 30 years) as well as The Theater at Monmouth. Jane also helped as a seamstress behind the scenes for many shows.
Jane had a life well lived and most of all she enjoyed entertaining at her lake house on Lower Narrows Pond. "Grammy/Gaga" loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends spent countless summers swimming, boating, and occasionally skinny dipping at the lake. Jane will be missed by her family and friends that loved her dearly.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Winthrop AMVETS Post #40, 117 Bowdoin St, Winthrop, ME 04364. A private graveside service will be at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, where Jane will be buried alongside Leo.
In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance in Jane's name may be made to Andwell Health Partners, ATTN: Development Office, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240 or give blood to your American Red Cross drive.
