Jane Lockerman Obituary
LOCKERMAN, Jane (Stansbury), of Gasburg, VA, passed away at her home on June 4, 2024. Betty Jane Stansbury was born on February 6, 1948, in Littleton, NC, to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ben Stansbury. Jane graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in education. She taught in Roanoke Rapids Graded School District for approximately 30 years, all of them at Manning Elementary School. In 1972, Jane met Alvin Alexander "Alex" Lockerman and after a brief courtship, they married at Enterprise Baptist Church on December 23, 1972. Four years later, God blessed Jane and Alex with a son, Al. After years of showering love on nieces, nephews, and cousins, Jane was rewarded with two grandsons, Atticus and Cooper, who have wonderful memories of wiffle ball games with their Meme, decorating the gingerbread Christmas tree, and playing endless board games. They are confident that Jane will never lose her title as the best brownie maker ever and they always knew that they could call her if they needed her. Jane was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the spring of 2021. Jane's courage and her faith in her Heavenly Father never wavered. Jane's family is exceedingly grateful to the nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice, the doctors and staff at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, and Gerardo Maradiaga, MD. Jane was a friend, teacher, mentor, sister, cousin, grandmother, mother and wife and she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her older sister, Justine Stansbury Jones; and her cousin, Robin Moore Sieber. Along with her husband, Alex, Jane is survived by her son, Alvin Alexander (Heather) Lockerman, Jr.; her two grandsons, Atticus and Cooper; her sister, Sandra Stansbury (Mike) Williams; brother-in-law, Larry Jones; sisters-in-law, Ida Bowen and Edna Trader; cousins, Melanie Moore (Todd) Lockamon and Jerri Lynn Moore (Mike) Morgan; and by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The funeral for Jane was held on June 7, 2024, at 3 p.m., at Enterprise Baptist Church, 404 Enterprise Road, Littleton, NC 27850. The family requests that contributions be made in Jane's memory to Youth Camps for Christ, Inc. or Camp Willow Springs and Camp Willow Run, 90 Mangum Lane, Littleton, NC 27850, 252-586-4665.
